The 120-note polyphonic Extreme has 160 MB of 48kHz wave ROM (1,344 programs, 50 drum kits, 1,280 combis) - plus GM2. Sounds include a broad selection of new samples, plus sounds from Korg expansion boards, and the complete Triton Studio ROM. New Valve Force­™ circuitry - an onboard 12AU7 tube - can be used as an insert effect, or applied to the final outputs. External sources can also be sampled through Valve Force. Korg's exclusive Open Sampling system allows direct access to sampling functions from Program, Combi, or Sequencing modes. The Extreme is compatible with WAV, AIFF, Akai S1000/3000, and Korg format sample data. Its 16MB of RAM can be expanded to 96MB using SIMMs. Extreme's USB ports (2) can be used to connect various forms of USB storage, including a CD burner, and also provides computer access to the onboard Compact Flash slot.
